"Cancer is always hereditary."

FACT

Only about 5–10% of cancers are hereditary. The vast majority are caused by genetic changes that happen during a person's lifetime due to aging or environmental factors.

"Sugar feeds cancer and makes it grow."

FACT

All cells use glucose for energy. Giving more sugar doesn't speed cancer growth. However, eating too much sugar causes weight gain, and obesity is a major risk factor.

"A biopsy/surgery causes cancer to spread."

FACT

The chance of surgery or biopsy causing cancer to spread is extremely low. Surgeons take many precautions. A biopsy is the safest and most reliable way to diagnose cancer.

"Smartphones and microwaves cause cancer."

FACT

There is no strong scientific evidence that low-frequency energy from cell phones or microwaves damages DNA or causes cancer.

"Cancer is a death sentence."

FACT

Many cancers are highly treatable, especially when detected early. Millions of people are living healthy, full lives after cancer treatment.
